Wassail

With Christmas looking different this year for many of us and we aren’t able to do some of our favorite traditions or in some cases spend time with our friends and family. I wanted to share some of mine. I have made a few cocktails to represent a few of my favorite traditions and favorite memories during the winter season!

For my first cocktail memory I wanted to share this wintery drink that my friend would make for us. The last five years my university friends and I have all come together for secret Santa, a pot luck dinner and terrible Christmas movies. We would listen to Christmas music, which is my worst nightmare but for this one night I allowed it, eat and drink too much food, open our presents, then end the night with bad Christmas romcoms. At these Christmas parties my friend always made her family’s wassail recipe (this is not her exact one). We would all bring over our favorite mugs and serve up a hot mug of wassail, even the smell makes me think of my first few Christmases away from home and how happy I was to have my new university family to spend time with during this time!

So I hope you enjoy this cocktail and it brings a bit of warmth to your house this winter!

Ingredients

4 Cups Fresh Pressed Apple Juice or Cloudy Apple Juice

1 Cups Pineapple Juice

1 Cup Orange Juice

1/2oz Lemon Juice

2 Cinnamon Sticks

4 Whole Cloves

Pinch of Allspice and

1/4-1/2 Cup Honey (to preference)

1/2 Cup Krupnik from Wayward

1 Cup Honeyshine Amber from DeVine

Method

Bring everything except the alcohol to a gentle simmer and stir occasionally for 30 minutes to an hour to let everything infuse. Once everything is infused and your house smells amazing take the pot off the heat and add your krupnik and honeyshine then serve! You can also make this recipe in a crockpot on low and add everything at once, that way you can make a big batch and leave in on the lowest heat setting all day so you can top up your glass whenever!
